Mark Your Calendar for December

Holidays season & end of the year, a time to celebrate & plan for a better tomorrow, hello December! It is a festive month in the Art world too, here are a list of artistic events to mark your calendar for December.

1. Contemporary Art Platform (CAP) in Kuwait

What: (The Colorful World of Hamad Al Humaidhan) is a solo exhibition of Kuwaiti artist Hamad Al Humaidhan, 12 years old, featuring 30 paintings of the young artist.

When: 14 – 24 December 2011.

Where: Contemporary Art Platform, Shuwaikh, Kuwait

Don’t Miss! Along with the exhibition there will be painting events on the 18, 19 and 20 December whereby young children can join Hamad to paint from 4 to 6pm.

What: Calligraphy Workshop
When: December, 10 at 3 PM
Where: Contemporary Art Platform (CAP) Shwaikh, Kuwait

Don’t Miss! Workshop fees will be donated to Althat Group’s organic gardening course in collaboration with Kuwait University. Art for environment-friendly cause?! 🙂

3. Art in the City Spotting the “IT” in Dubai City!

What: TwingeDx a New Art Festival in Dubai

Featuring local arts and culture over a week. Members of the local social media community based mostly in Dubai and Northern Emirates have united to launch what will be Dubai’s first urban festival.
When: from 10 – 16 December, 2011
Where: WildPeeta Open Spaces, Dubai, UAE.

What: (Echo) solo art exhibition of Davina de Beer
When: from 3 – 17 December, 2011
Where: Gallery 76, DIAC. Dubai, UAE.

What: (Marie Marie, the devil in me has taken you for a ride) solo exhibition for Abraaj Capital Prize Winner Marwan Sahmarani.
When: from 13 December 2011 to 16 February 2012.
Where: Lawrie Shabibi, Al-Quoz. Dubai. UAE

3. The Ara Gallery Reviving Poetry

What: (40 Poems From The Desert) in celebration of the 40th UAE National Day, Ara Gallery presents 40 poems written by 20 young emirates.
When: from 5 December 2011 to 13 January 2012
Where: The Ara Gallery. Dubai, UAE.

4. “DIRTY LAUNDRY” at Ayyam Gallery!

What: Syrian painter Tammam Azzam exhibition (Dirty Laundry)
When: from 19 December to January 26.
Where: Ayyam Gallery DIFC. Dubai, UAE.

5. Saraab in Mathaf

What: Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang is exhibiting 50 various artworks in his biggest exhibition since (I Want To Believe) at the Guggenheim Museum in 2008, named (Saraab).
When: from December 5, 2011 – May 26, 2012
Where: Mathaf Gallery, Qatar.

6. Contemporary Dance Show in Maqamat

What: (On the Lips, Snow) dance performance by Ali Chahrour
When: TWO SHOWS ONLY! 9th & 18th of December
Where: Maqamat Dance Theater, Hamra. Beirut, Lebanon

P. S. I attended this show last September, it was breathtaking & touchy that I almost cried -well some tears fell!

 

7. Dar Al Athar Al Islamiya Events

  • Japanese Pottery at Amricani Culture Center

 

What: (Japanese Pottery Exhibition) is a collaboration betweem The Japanese Embassy in Kuwait with Dar Al-Athar al-Islamiyyah (DAI) to  mark the 50th anniversary for the establishment of Japan-Kuwait relations.

When: from December 4 2011 – January 27 2012

Where: Amricani Cultural Centre, Kuwait

  • Wednesdays Musical Nights at Al Maidan Culture Center

 

What: DAI Music Circle (DMC) presents international & local music performance every Wednesday throughout December.

When: December 14 ( Music Semper Viva – Polish Music Night)

December 21 (An Evening of Acoustic Rock)

December 28 (Egyptian Music Night)

 

8. Vienna Brings Dubai The Nutcracker!

What:  (The Nutcracker) ballet perfomance by  Vienna Festival Ballet will bring cheer and joy in Dubai Community Theatre and Art Centre (DUCTAC) for 3 days!

When: from 15 to 17 December
