‘Silence’ in DIFC

Khaled Takreti ‘Portrait’ Acrylic on Canvas, 150 x 150 cm.

What:  ‘Silence’ a solo exhibition of Syrian artist Khaled Takreti. Departing from his usual heavily saturated candy coloured canvases, a subdued palette of sepia and grey tones and stark backgrounds render this body of work more engaging as the viewer is able to quietly impose onto the world of these silent characters.

‘Syria’ in Ayyam Art Center

Tammam Azzam ‘Bullet’ Archival Print On Cotton Paper, 60 x 60 cm.

What: ‘Syria’, Tammam Azzam’s solo exhibition of new digital and installation art is his way of reaching out, of sounding his pain and protest and shedding light on the matter. Exhibited exactly one year from the start of the series and curated by acclaimed Syrian artist Safwan Dahoul, these works extend a political commentary on the upheavals in their homeland that have led to the Syrian Uprising and the subsequent destruction and violence.

When: November 10th – December 31st, 2012.

Green Art Gallery

What: A Permanent Record For Future Investigation, an exhibition curated by New York-based artist Kamrooz Aram. The show will feature the work of five artists – Nazgol Ansarinia, Talia Chetrit, Iman Issa, Mehreen Murtaza, and Hajra Waheed – whose practices use image-making as a means to negotiate the question of representation. For these artists, representation is understood as a depiction of a space or an object, a description of an event, the writing of history, or the rendering of a memory.

What: The Future Shorts Festival is the biggest pop up film festival of its kind, showcasing the most exciting short films from around the world. This season, Future Shorts Festival will travel to over 172 countries and 547 cities with more than 75,000 people experiencing a showcase of the best short films from around the world.

Sharjah Art Foundation

What: (Inspite Of It All) an exhibition of work from the Sharjah Art Foundation’s growing collection presents a range of artistic responses to some of the most pressing issues we are faced with today. Curated by Sharjah Art Foundation Director Hoor Al Qasimi, the exhibition features work by 14 artists including Ayreen Anastas and Rene Gabri, Muratbek Djoumaliev and Gulnara Kazmalieva, Nikolaj Larsen, Maha Maamoun, Rashid Masharawi, Jean-Luc Moulène, Moataz Nasr, Marcel Odenbach, Melik Ohanian, Mario Rizzi, Raeda Saadeh, Jayce Salloum, Sharif Waked and Liu Wei.

When: November 3rd – January 3rd, 2013.

Where: Collections Building, Arts Area, Heart of Sharjah.
