Quoz Arts Fest, The Region’s Best Loved Cultural Festival, is Back!

Quoz Arts Fest by Alserkal will return during the last weekend of January, on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 January, 2022, activating Alserkal Avenue and the creative neighbourhood of Al Quoz and as a celebration of homegrown creatives from the region. The festival will see live music, performances, food trucks, outdoor installations, contemporary art exhibitions, wellness and mindfulness, a midnight movie marathon and more, all of which are free and open to the public.

Gaia, a touring artwork by Artist Luke Jerram will be on display at Concrete on 29 & 30 January. Measuring seven metres in diameter, Gaia features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface. The artwork also acts as a mirror to major events in society. In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the artwork may provide the viewer with a new perspective of our place on the planet; a sense that societies of the Earth are all interconnected and that we have a responsibility toward one another. After the lockdown, there has been a renewed respect for nature.

Outdoor music & dance performances will take place throughout the weekend in The Yard. On 29 January, performances include local favourites Satwa3000; and Jindi singer & performer known for his retro showmanship and dance oriented performances.

30 January will see an outdoor freestyle dance performance by Moncef Zebiri in collaboration with Sima Performing Arts; performance by DJ Michelle, the world’s youngest DJ; and Hamdan Al Abri, Emirati singer & songwriter. Buskers will activate the lanes of the Avenue across the weekend including Busker Big Hass. Ayur, a solo created for Tunisian choreographer and performer Sondos Belhassen will take place on both the days in Warehouse A1..

Reel Palestine will return with a film festival in Cinema Akil and a market in the Back Lane, featuring a curated collection of unique crafts, souvenirs, and flavors made and inspired by Palestinian tradition.

DP World, partner of Quoz Arts Fest 2022 will be supporting Zayed University for their Exhibition “In Suspension” , a mix of physical and digital experiences delivering an engaging programme for both youth and the broader UAE community. They will showcase key relevant sustainability initiatives, ‘Planet Earth’ exhibition by Maitha Al Omaira, which will explore different practices of nature and our connection to Earth, whether personal, environmental, geographical or ecological. The exhibition and programming will be presented in a 5x5m greenhouse built from aluminium and glass. DP World will have workshops including children’s storytelling, planting, guided tours with artists and poetry reading with artists Maitha Al-Omairi and Sarah Al Nuaimi.

An all-night outdoor movie marathon on the night of 29 January will take place in collaboration with Cinema Akil

Several artistic workshops for kids by thejamjar, Wisdom Warehouse and Warehouse421 along with creative workshops for adults including soap making & floral monogram watercolour painting by Ame Artistic Studio. Shimis will also have early morning yoga in the Yard at 9.30am on both days, with CRANK activating a silent ‘ride’ spinning class at 8am on both days.
